Can Everyday Makeup Be Good For Our Skin?

We’ve all heard that the “key” to clear skin is a good cleansing routine, the right products, and letting our skin “breathe.” We’ve all tried avoiding makeup to avoid burdening our skin. But what would you think if we told you that wearing makeup every day can actually be good for our skin? Unlikely? However, there is an interesting perspective.

TikTok and the change in attitude

It all started when a well-known skinfluencer on TikTok, Dewylouie, shared her experience.

“I wore full makeup for three days in a row and my skin improved. I can’t believe it!”

Her video had thousands of views and opened the discussion: does makeup have more benefits than we thought?

Before we rush to conclusions, we asked experts to understand if this theory has any basis.

The benefits of makeup

According to experts, makeup can protect our skin in several ways. Many products now contain SPF or antioxidants, which act as a shield against environmental factors like pollution and UV rays.

Makeup can also lock in moisture, especially when applied over a good foundation. Many formulas contain hyaluronic acid, which keeps skin hydrated and gives it a healthier appearance.

Another interesting point is that wearing makeup every day can make us more consistent with our cleansing routine. When we wear makeup, we are more likely to wash our face thoroughly at night, which helps remove oil, dirt, and dead skin cells.

But be careful: Good cleaning is everything

All of these benefits only apply if we take care to properly remove makeup at the end of the day. Double cleansing is essential – first with an oil cleanser and then with a gentle water-based cleanser.

If we leave makeup on the skin overnight, the skin can become clogged, irritated, or even dehydrated. Also, some products that contain fragrances or silicones can cause sensitivity if not cleaned properly.

Makeup is only part of the equation

And now the most important thing: makeup alone does not work miracles. If we combine it with a proper skincare routine and good hydration, we can see positive results. However, it is good to give our skin a breather every now and then, letting it ‘rest’ on the weekends.

Ultimately, everyday makeup is not the “enemy” we thought it was. With the right habits, it can become our skin’s friend – as long as we always remember to remove it before going to bed!
