Bella Hadid Defies the Naked Dressing Rule

If Bella Hadid wasn’t already the undisputed Queen of Cannes, she just took home the title at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony. The festival has only just begun, and the model has already stolen the show, hitting the Croisette wearing a sleek black cowlneck Saint Laurent dress that winks at the festival’s latest dress code addendum.

Hadid defied the new “no naked dress” rule—all without graphic nudity—thanks to a hip-high slit, exposed sides, and a strappy asymmetrical cross back. A Chopard ambassador since 2024, Hadid accessorized her look with a pair of gargantuan, 118.68-carat emerald earrings and a 12.15-carat heart-shaped diamond ring. She added to her bling with a pair of rhinestone-encrusted heels, also from Saint Laurent.

Hadid piqued our interest before even setting foot on the Croisette. Yesterday, she arrived at the Residence Du Louvre, where she debuted a honey-blonde updo, worn with a summery white corset top, flare pants, and vintage raffia-and-leather Saint Laurent heart heels.

The model’s past Cannes looks were nothing short of show-stopping, from multiple vintage Versace looks (in a single day) to the sheer hoisery dress from Saint Laurent that could stand in for the dictionary definition of naked dressing. In fact, Bella Hadid’s presence at Cannes is so legendary that one could argue that the festival created new red carpet rules inspired by her past attire. Ahead of the 2025 festival, the dress code was updated to include: “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival.” Can you say iconique?

But, as she showed us on the Croisette today, Bella Hadid doesn’t need nudity to steal the show. A little skin and a few enormous emeralds definitely don’t hurt, though!
