School Shooting In Oregon – At Least Three Children Dead

Five people were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in the US. Three of the victims are believed to be children 5, 8 and 11 and a teacher. Police say the attacker was 16 years old and shot dead at the scene.

Dead and injured: A shooting spree has rocked an elementary school in Bend, a desert town in the US state of Oregon. Several people were killed, and others were hospitalized with injuries. The dead include three children and one adult, believed to be a teacher. The suspected shooter is also dead, police said. He was only 16 years old.

Police spokeswoman Sheila Miller stated that at 12:59 p.m. local time, police received an emergency call reporting a gunshot fired at a car outside Silver Rail Elementary School. Emergency responders arrived at the scene a few minutes later. By then, the perpetrator had gained access to the school and opened fire. He was shot dead shortly afterward. It is not yet known whether this was done by police officers or another individual. Rumors suggest that a bystander may have shot the perpetrator. Several hundred first responders rushed to the school after the shooting was reported.

Police completely sealed off the school. They searched everything, classroom by classroom, and evacuated everyone from the building. Silver Rail Elementary School is located in Bend, about 160 kilometers southeast of Portland. According to the Oregon Department of Education, 459 children from kindergarten through fifth grade were enrolled there last year.

A meeting place for affected families has been set up at Journey Church on Highway 97. Principal Steve Cook said, “Words cannot adequately express the grief of our community.” Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley was stunned: “No one should have to live in fear of violence in school.”

In addition to the bodies of the adult’s three children, police report several injured people who were taken to hospital. There is no information yet on their condition.
