With the end of the mourning period for King Harald, the Norwegian royal family is returning to normality. The Royal Palace in Oslo announced that Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra “will continue to prioritize her studies and attend some official occasions until her return to Australia, where she will resume her studies in February.”
Official engagements and the return to Australia
The princess, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Political Economy at the University of Sydney , recently enrolled at the University of Oslo for the fall semester . She left Australia to be closer to home while her mother, Queen Mette-Marit , recovers from a lung transplant . Before enrolling at the University of Sydney in 2025, Ingrid Alexandra completed 15 months of military training with the Norwegian Army’s Engineer Battalion.
She played a key role in the events surrounding her father, King Haakon’s, accession to the throne, as her mother, Queen Mette-Marit,’s health prevented her from fully participating. She recently stood by her father at the opening of the Norwegian Parliament . She is likely to continue her official duties during her semester at the University of Oslo this fall, attending major events such as the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, held annually in December.
The Princess’s younger brother, Prince Sverre Magnus, recently began studies at Forward College , which has campuses in Lisbon, Paris, and Berlin. Her older half-brother, Marius Borg Høiby, remains under house arrest at the royal residence Skaugum . Høiby is currently appealing his conviction and sentence for rape and assault; the appeal process will begin on 9 February 2027. The new semester at the University of Sydney will begin on 22 February 2027.
