New Euro Banknote: You Have Until Monday To Vote

The public consultation on the new euro banknotes ends in a few hours. Millions of people have already taken part in the vote to decide what the new banknotes will look like.

Birds and rivers, or great European figures? The European Central Bank (ECB) has been conducting a public consultation since the end of July to choose the new look of euro banknotes. European citizens have until Monday, September 21st at 11:59 PM to participate. Among the various designs proposed for the 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 euro banknotes, some feature European birds and rivers. Others celebrate European personalities , such as Marie Curie, the Polish physicist, or Ludwig van Beethoven, the German composer, reports BFMTV.

To vote, you need to visit the European Central Bank’s website and fill out a simple questionnaire. Participants then see the different proposals and give their opinion on the overall design of the banknote. Already, more than nine million people have participated in the public consultation. In parallel, a survey is also being conducted on a representative sample of residents of the euro area.

Tickets with enhanced security

Cash payments are gradually being replaced by card payments, or even contactless payments directly via mobile phone. However, the new euro banknotes will replace those we have today in the coming years, by 2030. They will not only be visually different; their security features will be enhanced to combat counterfeiting. The results of the public consultation will be published by the ECB at the end of 2026.
