After exceeding expectations during flight tests, the Bombardier Global 8000 is about to take to the skies. Boasting a top speed of Mach 0.94, the business jet is poised to become the fastest civilian aircraft in the world since the end of the Concorde.
The world’s fastest civilian aircraft is about to enter service. As reported by the Journal du Geek, the first Bombardier Global 8000 aircraft completed its maiden flight on May 16 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. “This flight of the first production aircraft marks another successful milestone for Bombardier’s Global 8000 program, and we are very pleased with the aircraft’s performance during this inaugural journey,” said Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier.
With the aircraft having exceeded expectations during flight tests, the first production Global 8000 will soon fly to Bombardier’s Laurent Beaudoin Completion Centre where the interior will be fitted out in preparation for its entry into service scheduled for the second half of 2025.
The fastest plane since the end of the Concorde
Equipped with two GE Aerospace Passport engines, this jewel of the skies can accommodate up to 19 passengers. Cruising at Mach 0.94, or 1,161 km/h, this business jet is poised to become the fastest civilian aircraft in the world since the Concorde was retired on November 26, 2003.
“Seeing this first aircraft take flight is another important milestone on this journey that will redefine the landscape of business aviation,” explains Stephen McCullough. And for good reason. With a range of 8,000 nautical miles, or 14,800 kilometers, the Global 8000 opens up access to a multitude of routes, such as Dubai-Houston, Singapore-Los Angeles, or London-Perth. Thanks to its unique design and technical features, it will also be able to land easily at smaller airports, where other aircraft in its class cannot access. In addition to its impressive flight capabilities, the Bombardier aircraft promises luxury and comfort to its passengers. The business jet will offer four distinct living areas as well as a crew rest area.
