British actress and producer Naomi Watts will receive the award on September 19, during the 74th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, where she will also present ‘The Housewife’, her new film as the lead actress.
From Mulholland Drive to The Impossible , Naomi Watts (UK, 57 years old) has built a career marked by versatility, ambition, and a constant search for new roles. Now, the San Sebastian Film Festival recognizes this journey with the Donostia Award, which the British actress and producer will receive on September 19 at the Kursaal Auditorium.
Watts will receive the award during the 74th San Sebastian Film Festival , which will be held from September 18 to 26. Following the ceremony, The Housewife, the feature film debut of Canadian director Ben Shirinian, will be screened. Watts stars in the film alongside Tye Sheridan, Luke Evans, Michael Imperioli, and Lena Olin. Set in 1964 and based on true events, the film follows a young journalist who discovers that a suspected former Nazi is living in hiding in New York.
The Donostia Award, established in 1986, recognizes the extraordinary contributions to the world of cinema made by leading figures in the industry. Watts is one of the first personalities announced for this year’s award and joins a list of honorees that includes some of the most prominent names in international film.
