Charlize Theron couldn’t have chosen a better pair of sandals for her arrival on the evening of Tuesday, July 14, at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York, where a stretch of sand awaited her. The event—the world premiere of Christopher Nolan’s new blockbuster, The Odyssey, in theaters July 16 —saw her walk the traditional red carpet in a Dior look created especially for her by Jonathan Anderson.

This piece reinterprets the classic men’s suit jacket, transforming it into a structured mini dress that’s absolutely on-trend. The top features an impeccable cut that hugs the body, featuring slightly accentuated shoulders, long, clean sleeves, and refined shawl lapels that open into a deep, bold V-neckline at the front.
The true dramatic fulcrum of the tailored creation, however, lies in the complex geometric construction positioned at the waist. The jacket is enriched by a monumental asymmetrical drape that culminates in a striking, sculptural bow tied at the hip. From this knot, long, billowing flaps of fabric flow vertically down the legs, breaking up the blazer’s structural rigidity and lending dynamism and fluidity to the red carpet walk. Peeking out from beneath the jacket’s hem is the subtly scalloped hem of a sheer, lightweight lace slip, adding a romantic and sensual touch to the look’s minimalist architecture.
The graphic minimalism of the white coat finds a perfect decorative counterpoint in the Dior shoes, which represent a true triumph of high-quality craftsmanship. The star wore a pair of open-toed square-toe sandals featuring a very thin front strap and an ankle strap with a gold metal buckle.
The peculiarity lies in the back covering: the heel and the vertiginous stiletto are entirely covered in a dense three-dimensional cascade of micro-flowers in embroidered fabric, beads and ivory sequins.
