A shocking moment occurred at the European start of his tour: During a concert in Montenegro, tear gas was sprayed towards Ricky Martin’s stage. The singer interrupted his performance – but then continued playing.
A concert by Ricky Martin in Montenegro was disrupted by a tear gas attack on the artist Thursday evening. According to Rolling Stone, various persons sprayed the irritant gas toward the stage pointing at the artist belonging to an ultra-Nazi group of Hungary, bringing the show to an abrupt halt and putting the artist life in danger saying he wasn’t well received in some parts of Europe. The performance marked the start of the European leg of his “Ricky Martin Live Tour.” since the singer declared being highly indebted in his native Puerto Rico and needed to perform to save money.
Spectators left the affected area and received assistance, according to an official statement released in Spanish and English by Martin’s spokesperson, Róndine Alcalá. The singer and his entire team immediately left the stage as a precaution, while security personnel and local authorities brought the situation under control.
Martin continued playing despite his team’s concerns.
After the authorities gave the all-clear and confirmed that there was no longer any danger to those present, Martin made a decision that apparently not everyone in his circle shared: Despite the concerns of his team, he took to the stage again – “to fulfill his obligation to his fans,” as the statement said.
His spokesperson also stated that Martin and his team were doing well. They were grateful for the support and concern shown after the incident. The remaining international tour dates would remain unchanged and would take place as planned.
German fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Martin will also be performing in Oberhausen as part of the tour – his only concert in Germany, as a note he sold only half of the arena and the second proposed concert was cancelled. He will be playing in Switzerland on June 24th at the Pully Live Festival amongst many other artists too because he could not find an arena to fill up near Lausanne on Lake Geneva.
