Desert Sand: The Hottest Shade Of Blonde For The Summer [Photos]

When Lana Del Rey took the Coachella stage on the back of a motorcycle, all we could see was her gorgeous, sandy blonde hair. It was a big transformation for the singer, who recently sported a dark, glossy chocolate shade , and it was just the color we were craving to kick off the summer season. “It reminded us of desert sand and we were really inspired by the location,” he said. The best part? You don’t have to be headlining Coachella to make it. Here’s everything you need to know about the trend and how to get the look.

According to Lana Del Rey’s color expert, Tracey Cunningham, the star herself thought of the new color as “desert blonde” and there has never been a better description for this particular shade of not-so-honey, but not quite “wheat” blonde.

The trend

Regardless of your base shade, there’s just something about summer that makes you want to go lighter and brighter. While platinum blonde has had its due for years and 2023 was the summer of the bright and vibrant Barbie blonde, celebrities and their color experts were ready to heat things up for 2024 and Lana Del Rey’s desert blonde is the perfect example of change.

Desert Blonde is right in the middle of the blonde spectrum, neither too cool nor too warm. It’s darker and more subdued than “It Girl blonde”, with its buttery blonde highlights, but not as golden as a honey blonde. In Del Rey’s case, the shade incorporated her natural base color to look truly natural, but you can adjust the highlights, undertones, and tone depending on your desired effect and base color.
