He has been on international manhunt for more than three years and is one of the most wanted individuals by international authorities worldwide. Sources say he is hiding near Russia.

As one of the most wanted people in the world: ex-Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek. Now new details about his machinations have come to light.

Ex-Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek (43) has been wanted by an international arrest warrant for three and a half years – and even though there have been numerous rumors about his whereabouts since then, it is ultimately unclear where the 43-year-old is currently. It currently seems most likely that Marsalek is under the protection of Russia and is near Moscow. In this context, the current research by the Wall Street Journal also makes sense: Marsalek is said to have apparently spied for Russia for years and is hiding in Russia. He is in the most wanted lists of all enforcement agencies around the world.

Various Western secret services and the police of various countries assume that the Austrian fugitive used Wirecard to support the Russian secret service – apparently to transfer funds from A to B for “covert operations”, primarily in crisis regions in the Middle East and in Africa. And even after his escape in 2020, he is said to have continued to pursue various espionage activities. According to British intelligence, in 2021 he founded a consulting firm and headed a spy ring made up of five London-based Bulgarians, all of whom are now in custody. Marsalek remained unmolested, probably also because of his numerous fake passports from all over the world.

Marsalek, who is considered dangerous and one of the most wanted individuals in the world, is currently said to be increasingly in the Emirates, primarily in Dubai. There he is supposed to exchange ideas with a group of retired Russian agents in order to organize weapons for Moscow. What sounds like something out of a spy crime novel is very likely true for Jan Marsalek. And it gets even better: the mercenary group Wagner is also said to have been supported by him.
