Whenever she steps onto the red carpet, we know we are in for a sartorial treat. She and her stylist, Law Roach, never fail to impress with their method dressing, not only through their choice of outfits but also through the way they source particular pieces. These are often pulled from the archives, though sometimes they come directly from the Haute Couture runway. But in recent days, at the promotional premieres for her latest film, The Odyssey, in which she plays the goddess Athena, Zendaya has been drawing attention with yet another detail: her eyeshadow.
Zendaya is bringing eyeshadow back
The makeup looks created by makeup artist Ernesto Casillas quickly went viral and inspired countless recreations. From the white eyeshadow she wore at the London premiere to the mascara-free look at the New York premiere, where she looked as though a real Greek goddess had descended to Earth.
It was that London look, for which Zendaya walked the red carpet in a sculptural Schiaparelli couture gown, that made us realize eyeshadow is officially back. Casillas abandoned the usual shimmery champagne tones in the inner corners of the eyes that we have seen in every tutorial for years. Instead, he reached for a matte white, almost porcelain-white eyeshadow, applying it to the inner corners of her eyelids and blending it with soft, earthy tones in the crease. That simple yet incredibly effective brushstroke instantly opened up and brightened her eyes, giving her the ethereal, timeless appearance of a Greek goddess.
