Why No-Label Vintage Is The Ultimate Red-Carpet Flex

Trophy vintage has become a red carpet flex in recent years. Think of Kim Kardashian’s Marilyn Monroe gown at the 2022 Met Gala, Dua Lipa in the ’90s Chanel dress originally worn by Claudia Schiffer at the 2023 Met Gala, and Zendaya’s Mugler robot suit from autumn/winter 1995 for the Dune: Part Two press tour.

But beyond these stand-out pieces of fashion history, the power of vintage to grab attention has become somewhat more diluted of late, as archival looks become increasingly popular on the red carpet. That’s where no-label vintage comes in—as demonstrated by Angelina Jolie, who wore an anonymous beaded white and gold halter-neck gown at the Governors Awards, accompanied by her son Knox.

While most Hollywood stars are tethered to their stylists nowadays, the dress was sourced by Jolie herself from LA-based store, and insider favourite, The Kit Vintage. “What makes this moment the most meaningful for us, is that we know what a true vintage lover, fan and supporter she is,” founder Robyn Goldberg posted on Instagram. “Every time Angelina shops with us, she comes in on her own. She is very present, engaged and chooses each piece. It is her surrounding herself with vintage, inspired by what she puts on next.”
