It is recommended that women start preventive ultrasound examinations from the age of 25. Breast cancer must not be a taboo subject, but an issue that we must address together in order to protect more women from this disease.
Unfortunately, in Serbia we still have a problem with the availability of information and timely examinations, especially in smaller areas, where access to specialists is limited, and awareness of the importance of regular check-ups is lower. Every year, thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer – a disease that can be deadly but is highly curable if detected early. That is why it is crucial that every woman is informed about the importance of regular preventive examinations. Mammography, ultrasound , and even a simple self-examination can be the first steps towards preserving health.
However, the responsibility is not only on women – the whole society must be involved in this fight. The health system must provide affordable screening programs, the media must continuously raise awareness of the importance of prevention, and we must spread these messages among ourselves.
This year, special emphasis at the conference was placed on the importance of information and the availability of diagnostic tools, which is necessary to reduce the mortality rate and raise awareness about prevention.
