Lionsgate has officially announced that “John Rambo,” the
prequel to the historical action film, will be released in theaters on June 4, 2027.
The new film will serve as the origin story of the iconic character John Rambo and will take place before the events of the 1982 film “First Blood,” starring Sylvester Stallone, which essentially launched the entire franchise.
This was followed by the sequels Rambo: First Blood Part 2, Rambo III, Rambo and Rambo: Last Blood.

The plot of Rambo
The film revolves around a US Army Special Forces veteran who is psychologically traumatized by the Vietnam War but possesses military skills, which he uses against corrupt police officers, soldiers, and drug cartels.
Young John Rambo will be played by Noah Centineo, while David Harbour will be at his side in the role of Major Troutman.
The cast also includes James Franco, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong, although the roles of several of them have not yet been revealed.
The film is directed by Hjalmari Hellander , known for the film Sisu, from a screenplay by Rory Haynes and Sohrab Noshirvani. Anthony and Joe Russo are also producing, with Sylvester Stallone serving as an executive producer.
Lionsgate is also preparing a particularly busy film schedule for 2027, which also includes “Day Drinker” with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, “The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One” by Mel Gibson, and “The Housemaid’s Secret.”
“John Rambo” is expected to be released shortly after Disney’s Star Wars: Starfighter and a few weeks before Sony’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
