Unique Artistic Watches At A Swiss Auction For Medical Research

The “Palexpo” auction in Geneva attracts dozens of unique artistic watches in the world, during the tenth edition of the auction, which is launched every two years, for the benefit of research related to “Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.” This disease, known as (DMD), results from a genetic condition that is a gradual weakness of all muscles in the body, including the heart, and a loss of the ability to walk and become completely independent.

The “Only Watch” organization launched this project in 2005 by Patavino Luc, president of the Monaco Yacht Show, after his four-year-old son was diagnosed with the same disease.

Each auction has a special character through a specific color, which the watchmakers incorporate into their designs. This year, green was chosen as a symbol of hope, and many watchmakers this year chose to incorporate the colors of the rainbow into their designs.

The watches include well-known brands, such as Audemars Piguet, Bvlgari, Hermès, Patek Philippe, Piaget, and Richard Mille, as well as new innovators in the field.

Watch prices carry amounts consisting of 6 figures, which reflects their high value, such as a watch designed by “Jacob & Co”, made of colored glass, which is the first quadruple “tourbillon” watch in the world, and its price is estimated to reach about 900 thousand dollars, in addition to About the Rolling Stone watch, which is covered with small handcrafted musical instruments.

The auctions, which have been held every two years since 2005, have raised an amount of $112 million, according to a Bloomberg report, which indicated that about a thousand collectors and those interested in watchmaking may make their way to Geneva on November 5, 2023 to participate in this auction.

In 2019, the Only Watch project achieved a world record for a wristwatch designed by Patek Philippe that was sold for $31 million, and it is one of the most complicated watches ever.

The watches participating in the auction will tour around the world before going on sale on November 5, stopping in several cities including Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Monaco.
