On Wednesday, February 19, Tiphaine Auzière, Brigitte Macron’s daughter, shared a message that sparked a heated debate on her X account.
As of February 28, the C8 channel will cease broadcasting permanently. This decision was made by the Council of State on Wednesday, February 19, rejecting the final appeal filed by the channel and NRJ 12 against the renewal of their frequencies by Arcom, the French audiovisual and digital communications regulatory authority. Regarding C8, the Canal+ Group stated in a press release that “an entire ecosystem is being sacrificed in light of the economic, social, and competitive stakes involved,” adding that “nearly 400 C8 employees and contractors are about to lose their jobs or see them threatened.”
The channel’s closure has prompted reactions from several public figures. Tiphaine Auzière, Brigitte Macron’s daughter and a commentator on the French TV show “Touche pas à mon poste,” offered her support. “Support for the C8 teams and viewers impacted by the closure of the @C8TV channel,” the lawyer wrote on her social media account on Wednesday, February 19. This message did not go unnoticed and sparked a heated debate on social media, with some users blaming her stepfather, President Emmanuel Macron, for the closure.
