There were also pleasant surprises, including accolades for the Snap cast of the film Sinners, as well as globally admired titles like Netflix’s animated hit K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Below, George V Magazine brings an overview of the biggest conclusions, surprises and absences among this year’s Oscar 2026 nominations.

Sinners writes Oscar history

This is a great day for Ryan Coogler. His Southern Gothic Vamra pic Sinners officially became the film with the most Oscar nominations of all time — as many as 16 nominations in different categories. The film surpassed the records held so far by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016).

In addition to numerous nominations in creative categories such as the best music and costume design, the film is also nominated in the main categories: for the best film, the best actor (Michael B. Jordan, the best supporting actor and actress (Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaka), as well as for best directing and original screenplay (Ryan Coogler).

One Battle After Another leaves a strong impression

Paulo Anderson’s national dark comedy One Battle After Another has achieved great success despite the dominance of the film Sinners. The film received an impressive 13 nominations, including those for best film and directing, as well as acting nominations for Leonardo DiCapri, Teiana Taylor and Benia del Tora.

Timothée Chalamet unstoppably breaks records

Timothée Chalamet continues to prove that it belongs to the very top of the acting elite—and succeeds in this. Thanks to his role in the film Supreme, he became the youngest actor in history to be nominated for an Oscar three times.

Previously, he was nominated for the film (2017) and for the role of Bob Dylan in Athe film (2024).

Year of seducers who become Oscar-winning

Social media exploded after the nominations were posted, particularly in the categories of the best-headed and side actor. Jacob Elordie received a surprising nomination for the role of Monster in Frankenstein’s Guillerm del Tora, while Michael B. Jordan is nominated for the best male role thanks to the double role of twins Stack and Smoke in the Sinners film.

Biggest Omission: Wicked: For Good

While the first part of the musical Wicked in 2025 won as many as 10 nominations, the sequel did not experience the same success. The second part, which nevertheless achieved great success at the box office, did not receive a single nomination this year.

Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo were also left out, who were not nominated for the best secondary actress.
