Cult films sometimes have a wardrobe ahead of their time. In the “Summer Screening” series, classic films meet their contemporary runway counterparts, creating an inspired and referential vacation look. In just under two hours, Jacques Deray’s “The Swimming Pool,” starring Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin, unfolds a casually sophisticated wardrobe on screen. Remake featuring Miu Miu, Celine, Givenchy, and Pucci.
It’s summer in the South of France, in the 1960s. Everything revolves around a swimming pool: two women and two men meet there. And an atmosphere of desire and danger takes hold. What makes

are the outfits worn by Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin. One, young and mischievous, the other, chic and sophisticated, reflecting their age. Yet, these two icons of the 60s are absolutely irresistible and just as relevant in 2026, decades later. Proof of this can be seen on the catwalks, which suggest a summer wardrobe inspired by the colors of Jacques Deray’s cult film.

We first see Jane Birkin sitting in her father’s red Maserati, her face half-hidden behind tinted windows. In her early scenes, her shy and discreet personality is masked by her oversized sunglasses . As if hiding behind their round lenses, unsure what to make of her unexpected arrival at Romy Schneider and Alain Delon’s villa, she is safe, yet strikingly noticeable. At the forefront of fashion when the film was shot, these sunglasses are still just as popular in 2026. This summer, even the smallest suitcases must make room for these gigantic sunglasses , if only to guarantee blue skies until the end of August.

From the very first minutes of the film, Alain Delon is reclining on a chair on a terracotta terrace. Romy Schneider , alias Marianne, appears in a white one-piece swimsuit , fixing her hair while sunbathing. They then enjoy themselves together by the pool. Throughout the film, as is typical of *La Piscine *, the actress wears various swimsuits, each as iconic as the last . The most memorable remains this white one-piece. A striking look to complement the sun’s rays, it has now been reinvented by Givenchy , though it’s unclear whether it’s meant for a dip in the pool or for strolling in skimpy attire through the streets of chic seaside resorts this summer.

Halfway through the film, the tension has never been higher for everyone in the villa. Yet, it’s time to sit down to eat. While everyone sits solemnly in silence, the only one who stands out is Romy Schneider . She’s wearing a silk dress designed by André Courrèges. In the darkness of the night, the colors of her dress—green, blue, and yellow—shine through the camera.
