For years, Rosatom has been expanding its activities in Africa, trying to increase business by signing cooperation agreements with countries across the continent. Part of that push has included strengthening ties with military juntas in West Africa’s Sahel region, which have distanced themselves from traditional Western allies since taking power in a series of coups starting in 2020. have progressively moved closer to the Russian sphere of influence.
