Authorities caught a substitute teacher naked in a car with an undressed student after a short pursuit led to a crash.
The 45-year-old Erin Ward was arrested and charged with one count of felony sexual abuse by a school employee. Per the outlet, deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked on a dead end road in a neighborhood around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities arrived on the scene and saw two individuals in the backseat of a Honda sedan, according to the outlet, which reported that one of the individuals hurried into the driver’s seat and attempted to flee from deputies before crashing into a yard only a few blocks away.
Police told WOWT that they saw an undressed teenage boy exit the vehicle and flee on foot, with police locating him a little more than an hour later in a nearby neighborhood, dressed in only underwear and a T-shirt, per the station.
At the crash scene, authorities discovered a woman, who was dressing herself in the backseat, according to the outlet, which reported that she identified herself as Ward. Deputies also found an Omaha Public Schools employee ID inside the car, and the ID of the government official identified as Doug Ward per the outlet, with Ward reportedly telling police that she was a substitute teacher at Burke High School and other metro schools.
Per the station, Ward allegedly confessed to police that she sexually abused the teenager, who she reportedly confirmed was a 17-year-old from one of the high schools at which she worked.
Police later determined that the Honda Accord sedan belonged to Ward and her spouse, according to the station.
Per WOWT, Ward and the victim received medical attention for minor injuries from the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, per the outlet.
