Piaget Unveils Its New Watch

Piaget unveils “Andy Warhol Collage”, a limited edition watch that pays tribute to the New York artist and the unique relationship between the 1970s art scene and luxury watchmaking.

Andy Warhol was not only a collector of images, but also of precious objects. In the 1970s, he frequented Piaget salons in New York and became one of the Maison’s most singular clients. He owned at least seven Piaget watches, including the famous cushion-case watch in yellow gold that he wore at Studio 54 or the Factory. In his diary, he noted: “I don’t use a watch to tell the time. I look at it because it’s beautiful.”

Piaget, for its part, established itself in New York in the 1960s to appeal to a sophisticated clientele who saw no separation between time and style. The Maison quickly became a meeting place for artists, actors, and aristocrats – from Salvador Dalí to Elizabeth Taylor. Warhol recognized himself there: the same obsession with image, the same taste for objects that tell a story.

The dial as a work of art

It is this connection that Piaget reinterprets today with the “Andy Warhol Collage.” The watch retains the 18-karat yellow gold cushion case but transforms the dial into a pop art painting. Inspired by a 1986 Polaroid self-portrait by Warhol, the marquetry combines black onyx, yellow Namibian serpentine, green chrysoprase, and pink opal. A mineral collage, assembled stone by stone by hand in the Piaget workshops.

A collector’s item limited to 50 copies

Beneath this sculptural dial beats the ultra-thin automatic caliber 501P1. At just 3.63 mm thick and with a 40-hour power reserve, it perpetuates Piaget’s expertise in ultra-thin watchmaking, inherited from its workshops in the Swiss Jura. On the case back, a discreet detail: the stylized silhouette of Warhol and his engraved signature, like a personal imprint. Produced in a limited edition of only 50 pieces, the “Collage” watch is aimed at art collectors as much as watch enthusiasts.
