The basic idea of this challenge is simple: over a certain period of time, most often a month, you avoid all unnecessary expenses. This means that you will only pay for essentials such as food, utilities, rent and transportation, while luxury purchases and impulsive wishes – such as another coffee in your favorite cafe or new jacket – will be on a break.
The goal is not to completely isolate yourself or to stop enjoying life, but to temporarily put “stop” with unnecessary expenses and focus attention on saving. This period can serve you both as a reset of your budget, as well as an opportunity to become more aware of your finances.
