Here are some tips to save your skin from winter and ensure it stays soft, hydrated and protected.

Use a mild and moisturizing cleansing gel

In the winter months, it is important to avoid aggressive cleansing gels that can further dry out the skin. Choose products that have a moisturizing formula, such as gels or creams with added glycerin or aloe vera. These products help maintain optimal moisture levels on the skin and prevent it from drying out.

Regular hydration

It is important to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. Using rich moisturizers or lotions high in hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and natural oils (like argan or coconut oil) will help lock in moisture. Hydration is best applied immediately after showering, while the skin is still damp, because then the cream will absorb better and work more effectively.

Protect your skin from cold air

When you go out in the cold, don’t forget to apply protection to your skin. SPF creams are not only needed in summer, but also in winter. Considering that the sun can still be quite intense, even in the winter months, UV protection is essential. Also, always tie a scarf around your neck and face, which will protect your skin from direct exposure to cold air and wind.

Exfoliate – but in moderation

Exfoliation is important to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin, however, one should be careful in winter. Exfoliating too aggressively can damage the skin, which is already weakened by the cold. Choose mild scrubs with natural ingredients like oatmeal or clay, which won’t irritate the skin. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week to maintain soft and healthy skin.

Use rich night creams.

During the night, when the skin regenerates, you can use rich night creams that contain nutrients such as vitamin E, peptides, ceramides or natural oils. These creams will deeply nourish the skin and provide it with the necessary hydration during the night. Don’t forget your lips either – lip balm is a must in the winter months!

Drink enough water.

Although winter may make us feel less need to hydrate, it is still important to drink enough water. Water is essential for skin health, as it helps maintain its elasticity and moisture. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and teas are a great way to stay hydrated.

Avoid excessive use of heating

Even though it’s nice and warm indoors, heating can seriously dry out the air, and therefore the skin. Consider using a humidifier, which will maintain moisture in the room, preventing the skin from drying out. You can also keep a bottle of water on the radiator to increase the humidity in the room.

Winter is not the time for long hot baths

Although winter is the perfect time to enjoy warm baths, hot water can destroy the skin’s natural protection, which can lead to dryness. Try to shower in lukewarm water, and instead of strong scented gels, use shower creams with moisturizing ingredients, such as shea butter or jojoba oil.

Hand and foot care

The skin on the hands and feet is particularly sensitive to the cold. We wash our hands often, which further dries the skin. Use rich hand creams with added natural oils, as well as hand masks that you can apply before bed. Legs, especially feet, can become dry and cracked, so it is useful to use moisturizing creams and not to forget to use foot scrubs regularly.

Watch your diet.

What you put into your body also has a significant impact on the appearance of your skin. Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish, nuts, and flaxseed) can help maintain healthy skin. Also, vitamin C and E intake can improve skin elasticity and help it recover from cold damage.

The 90s were a time of colorful lip splendor, fruit lotions and color masks that served primarily for fun, not for skincare.
