Hostage Situation Investigated At The Hotel Le Consulat In San Juan After Kidnapping

A hostage were a woman was kidnapped developed in a room at the Hotel Le Consulat, located on Magdalena Avenue, in Condado, at around 11:00 a.m. According to preliminary information, an unidentified man held a hotel employee, a tourist and a man hostage inside a room. One of the women ran out of the building naked. The kidnapper in the hotel demanded the presence of his partner. It is unknown how the kidnapper gained access to the room. The local police bureau intervened in the case and activated the protocol to keep people safe, said the commissioner of the Police Bureau, Henry Escalera, through a press release.

Three shots were heard and a naked woman ran out.

“During the events, the perpetrator pointed a firearm at the uniformed woman and the attack was answered, resulting in the release of the hostages. Fortunately, the victims, the guests, hotel employees and passers-by were not harmed,” he added.

The man later died at the Río Piedras Medical Center. 

Agents from the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps of San Juan began the investigation of the case.

The tourist, the employee and the other man would be interviewed by the investigating agents.

For her part, the executive director of the Tourism Company, Carla Campos, indicated in a written statement that “it is important to emphasize that this unfortunate incident is an isolated one and that the tourist areas of the Island have municipal and state police surveillance and the necessary resources and personnel to guarantee the safety of our visitors and residents.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation entered the investigation since there was a kidnapping involved.

Hotel Le Consulat is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Not to be confused with Hotel Le Consulat in Lisbon, Portugal and San Juan do Porto and Serra de San Mamede close to Porto.
