For over 20 years, Grey’s Anatomy has been watched by millions of viewers worldwide. A true success story for this medical drama, which shows no signs of slowing down. And while season 22 is currently airing, the actors have already resumed filming the next season. This 23rd batch of episodes promises to be, as always, full of twists and turns.
However, for this new season of Grey’s Anatomy, fans of the series will have to say goodbye to two characters, as two actors are leaving the show . Indeed, the characters Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) will not be returning for the next season of Grey’s Anatomy, as announced by the show’s official account last March. And another potential departure is causing great concern among fans.

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the official Grey’s Anatomy account shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set. The picture shows many of the show’s actors, including Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), Debbie Allen (Catherine Avery), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Weber), Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson), Chris Carmack (Atticus Lincoln, aka Link), and Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd). Also pictured are Trevor Jackson (Wes Bryant), Adelaide Kane (Jules Millin), Niko Terho (Lucas Adams), Harry Shum Jr. (Benson “Blue” Kwan), and Anthony Hill (Winston Ndugu).
But among all these actors, Ellen Pompeo is nowhere to be found! The actress who plays Meredith Grey doesn’t appear in the photo, which has certainly raised eyebrows among fans of the show. “Okay, so I don’t see Meredith???” one comment reads. “Where is Meredith???” another user writes.

Ultimately, Ellen Pompeo chose to reduce her screen time while continuing to provide the voiceover for the series and maintaining her status as a producer. Thanks to this lighter schedule, the actress was able to take on other projects. She starred in the series Good American Family and, more recently, in the new series Chicks. These new projects may have prevented the actress from reprising her role as Meredith Grey.
