With a sound that blends urban, alternative pop, and a personal narrative, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Elia is making waves with
“CASA x CASA ,” her debut album, which aims to connect even more deeply with her listeners through each of her lyrics.
George V Magazine spoke with the artist about the inspiration behind this new chapter, the creative process that gave life to the album, and how she hopes her new project will transcend.
“Releasing this album has been a blessing. I feel like I’ve been working on it for a long time… Two years finishing every detail and a year polishing all the visuals. I’m extremely happy, content, and at peace that I’ve finally released it. Now it’s not mine, now it belongs to everyone.”
The project, as he explained, unfolds as a journey through the most intimate spaces of his mind, where each “house” represents a song, an emotion, and a different stage of his personal history.
“Each house represents a memory, a space where people lived,” said the young woman from Morovis.
Across more than 10 songs, including the title track, “5JONES,” the album establishes a narrative imbued with a unique sense of magical realism. It also features tracks that stand on their own, from the energetic pop-rock of “ FLOWER GIRL” to the jazz-infused, alternative R&B-tinged ballad “FASHION AVENUE,” as well as the rhythmic , guitar-driven “CENA PA’ TRES.”
Beyond the songs, Elia wanted to expand the universe of CASA x CASA with an audiovisual piece that complements the album experience . Through a short film, the artist translates into images the emotions and memories that inspired the project, reinforcing the concept of each “house” as a space full of meaning.
The project lasts 20 minutes and invites the public to explore their emotional universe and delve into each of those emotions.
“It was about 20 hours of intense production, I won’t lie, but it was magical. I felt like I was at Disney, like when you’re a kid and you go to your favorite place. I’m so happy and grateful to the whole team. They really went all out behind the short film,” she said.
With “CASA x CASA,” the singer also marks a turning point in her career. After several years exploring different sounds and searching for her artistic identity, she affirms that this album represents the first time she has allowed herself to create honestly, without responding to trends or external expectations.
“I’ve been fully dedicated to music for eight years now. I started around 16 or 18 years old… I consider myself an artist who’s done a little bit of everything. I became a slave to that constant pressure of ‘let me do what’s trending’ or ‘let me do what people want.’ Then, about three years ago, I asked myself: ‘Hey, is this what I want to do or is this what people want?’ That’s when I started making music that, for me, for Eliana Marrero Torres , for Elia, is good, is refreshing, and has that special touch.”
Meanwhile, convinced that authenticity has been the key to building this project, the emerging artist hopes that the album will transcend entertainment and become a space of identification and healing for those who listen to it.
“But I feel that when things are done from the heart and have a message behind them, that’s when they make a difference, and people see them in a different light. With this album, I want people to be able to find themselves in a healthy and safe place, where they can also heal those wounds they so desperately need to heal ,” she concluded.
