On a recent trip, I was nearly blinded by a beam of light reflected off a fellow traveler’s ring finger. It was a diamond of epic proportions—I’m talking Hailey Bieber or Kardashian-style wattage. As a true girl’s girl, I complimented her on it. She laughed. “Oh, this? It’s actually from Amazon.” I could not contain my shock.
She went on to explain that she had purchased it to wear to the gym, when traveling, and any other time she felt it would be risky to wear her actual diamond ring out and about. Genius.
When I reported this to my married sister, she scoffed. “Yeah, I’ve had a dupe ring, like, ever since the wedding.” Apparently, I am late to the party.
Then, while recently reporting on a story, I set out to interview people selling their engagement rings on Facebook. One user told me the band she had listed was actually a “cheaper ring” she bought to wear while clubbing. (Love that for her.) Her marriage had ended, but she planned to keep the “nice one.” (Love that for her, too.)
Now, I’m seeing faux engagement rings just about everywhere—including the accessory sections at my favorite online shops. More and more brides seem to be joining the trend, and honestly, it makes good sense. Below, shop the best travel wedding rings.
