The Coldplay concert was at the top of my bucket list until last year. So at the first opportunity I ran and saw them at the magnificent Wembley Stadium in London. I was not deterred despite the underground strike because I went with the most suitable escort. My eldest son, Niko, who in his 30s belongs to the generation that fell in love and was smitten with Coldplay. By the end of the concert I had become the most die-hard fan. And while I wanted to write about our experience, as soon as I got home I looked to find out where I would see them again.
So I became a sort of groupie and toured the world for Coldplay. I took trains to Manchester and Cardiff and made it all the way to Gothenburg – where I also drove the Bridge to Germany because I was crazy about the series and it was number 2 on the bucket list that took me to Copenhagen, Denmark.
And I learned the words and I don’t just go “Ooo-oo-oo” to every song and I know every Chris line and every firework. And as many concerts as I go to, no one like Coldplay!
Because from Athens and the Olympic Stadium, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John to Harry Styles, the Weeknd and Taylor Swift should pass this year.
In June 2024, when the Coldplay concert starts, you too will be one of the bodies jumping up and down, in a feast of colors, confetti, balloons and fireworks. Once you hear Higher Power and Coldplay come on, giant balloons will pop into the crowd. In “Adventure of a Lifetime” your wristbands will flash in a colorful symphony non-stop and you will already be a huge part of the show. And the singing begins: the biggest Sing A Long on the planet! Let yourself be guided by frontman Chris Martin. It will tell you exactly what you want to hear. And you will participate in a real feast for the senses where the artist is not there for his ego but to share with you not only his successes but the joy of life. Viva La Vida!
The band will also power our own shows with 100% renewable energy. The battery wristbands that will be handed out at our entrance will flash the light throughout the concert. By buying the ticket, we support environmental protection, green and clean technology and tree planting. All this to make Coldplay the most sustainable concert the planet has ever seen.
Chris will thank the crowd saying: “Thank you for coming despite the traffic chaos with all the train strikes and the traffic and everything… All we can do is give you the best show of our lives.” He will definitely speak Greek and will come up with something sur mesure. And in the next two hours he will succeed ! The whole world will sing with them! In “Viva La Vida” the voices will be heard all the way to the Acropolis. During “Human Heart”, the wristbands will flash to form red hearts. Incredible and moving, a unique spectacle. Explosions of fire, confetti and fireworks. At the heart of it all is of course the music and Chris, along with Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. All are in top form here 25 years since they first started their musical journey. Chris had predicted it all. And instead of riding the stick he has become even more down to earth, approachable and sweet. While remaining posh to the bone, it promotes kindness. Whether it’s authentic or not is of no concern to me. He had me from Hello.
The beloved “Yellow” comes to life with a sea of amber colors on the bracelets, and “My Universe” with twinkling lights. He will think of something divine to say about Athens and Greece. Then he’ll tell us to put down our cell phones to go into the “human connection” and sing along with them to “A Sky Full of Stars.” I did it the first time and regretted it. Do not chew! It’s impossible to keep the phones away and you’ll want to rewatch the scene on your mobile. Talk about an epic climax. The song ends with a fiery finale of fireworks. When the band returns to the stage for the encore, maybe they have guests from our country, maybe they will say something special. However, the show ends with “Fix You” and spectacular fireworks in the sky.
I hope you joined the virtual queue and booked your seats. Date in the arena!
