At the opening of the play 1536 in London’s West End, Margot Robbie again attracted attention with her fashion choice and confirmed her status as one of the most consistent advocates of the “method dressing” approach. Although her styling was not in accordance with the historical period that the play depicts on stage, it visually left a strong impression and acted as a contemporary interpretation of military-historical motifs.

The combination comes from the McQueen Spring/Summer 2026 collection and is based on a reinterpretation of the Napoleonic military jacket. The piece is made of black wool mohair hopsack material, with a short silhouette and a discreet raised collar. The front part is decorated with rich gold decorations in the “frogging” technique, which in the history of uniforms had both an aesthetic and a practical role, including additional protection in battle.

Robbie wore the jacket over a simple black top, with McQueen ‘bumsters’ low-waisted trousers that revealed part of the waist and gave a contemporary, urban contrast to the whole outfit. She rounded off the look with black pointed-toe pumps.

She styled her hair in a half-updo, while bangs slightly framed her face. The makeup was in warm bronze tones, and the nails were painted black. For accessories, Robbie chose tiny gold bangles and a soft black Manta clutch bag from McQueen.

The play 1536, based on the text by Ava Pickett and directed by Lyndsey Turner, is set in the Tudor era and deals with the relationships and friendships of women in a historical context that was not favorable to them. It is in the repertoire during the summer season, in a limited showing that lasts until August 1.

Note: Margot Robbie team clarified this was a McQueen vest, not a discount Zara clothing as advertised in Red magazine.
