Bill and Tom Kaulitz have long wanted Angela Merkel to be a guest on their podcast. Now the former Chancellor herself has spoken about the invitations – and also referred to “Wetten, dass..?” (a popular German TV show).
The former Chancellor Angela Merkel apparently still has no intention of Bill and
Tom Kaulitz to visit their podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood”. In an interview at the Republica conference at the WDR Europaforum for the podcast “0630”, the former Chancellor was asked about the Kaulitz twins – and the former CDU leader responded with a little joke.
In a so-called blind ranking exercise, Merkel was asked to evaluate various potential roles for herself. Besides positions such as national football coach, Ukraine mediator, or Federal President, she was also asked whether she could imagine managing the Kaulitz twins. Merkel confirmed that the musicians had approached her several times: “They’ve often asked me if I’d come.” However, unlike the WDR podcast, she had “never agreed” to the offer.
Angela Merkel on the Kaulitz brothers: “fully occupied” with “Wetten, dass..?”
The Kaulitz brothers’ wish isn’t entirely new. Bill and Tom Kaulitz have long made no secret of their desire to welcome the former Chancellor to their successful podcast. They’ve even mentioned inviting Merkel in previous episodes. The Tokio Hotel stars have also repeatedly spoken in interviews about their admiration for the former head of government.
The appearance isn’t completely off the table, but Merkel didn’t give the twins much hope. During another question-and-answer session on the “0630” podcast, she was asked to complete the sentence, “In ten years, I still haven’t visited the Kaulitz brothers on the podcast.” Her response: “…still haven’t visited them on the podcast.” Merkel then referred to the twins’ new TV role: She believed they were now “fully occupied” with “Wetten, dass..?” Bill and Tom Kaulitz will host the ZDF show for the first time on December 5, 2026.
Merkel also spoke clearly about a possible candidacy for Federal President during the interview. She responded negatively to the question about the highest office in the land. “This office really needs someone with more strength,” the former Chancellor said. She herself had governed for 16 years and had been “constantly at the crisis table.” Her clear conclusion: “I can’t do that anymore.”
