HBO announced the series’ renewal a day before the highly-anticipated second season finale, which included a cameo by Kim Cattrall, the series’ fan-favorite Samantha Jones.
“We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex and the City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these fantastic actors,” said series creator Michael Patrick King in an official statement. “I And Just Like That… season three is coming.”
Here’s everything we currently know about the upcoming AJLT season .
When will season 3 air?
MAX has confirmed on social media that Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and the rest will be back on our screens in 2025. The network also shared the first images from the third season showing the main three heroines, along with new characters Lisa Todd Wexley (Ari Nicole Parker) and Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury). Executive producer Michael Patrick King also confirmed that actress Patti Lupone will join the series in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
Where did season 2 end?
The end of the second season of AJLT shows Carrie saying goodbye to her beloved apartment and ready to move on with her renewed romance with ex-fiancé Aidan Shaw. However, by the end of the episode—after Aidan’s youngest son is in a car accident in a clear call for help—Aidan tells Carrie that he can’t be with her until his children are grown. He asks her to “wait five years”, assuring her that the time will pass quickly since they have already waited so long to be together.
As for the rest of the crew, Miranda has made peace with two of her exes, Steve and Che, and Charlotte is settling back into the rhythm of work while sharing responsibilities with Harry. Seema is in love with her charming Marvel actor (but won’t drop everything to move in with him while he’s on set), and Nya has finally found her romantic partner (a very handsome chef) after her divorce.
Will Kim Cattrall reappear as Samantha?
Never say never…but it seems unlikely. Cattrall has previously hinted in interviews that she agreed to return to mark the show’s 25th anniversary as a gift to fans – for that reason alone.
Che Diaz will also not be returning
Although MAX has not confirmed whether the controversial character played by Sarah Ramirez will be present in season three, sources suggest that fans of his character should not expect Che to be a part of the show when he returns. Ramirez previously stated on social media that she was kicked out of the series due to her outspoken political views.
