Kate Moss is a film producer
Kate will executive produce, with support from the Lucian Freud Archive, according to Variety . James Lucas—who previously won an Oscar for his short film The Phone Call —will direct. “As this is such a personal story for me, it was essential that I be involved with James in every aspect of the development of the project,” Kate said, according to Variety . “I am delighted with the recent casting and excited that the film will begin shooting soon.” I can’t wait to see him.”
Ellie Bamber will play Kate
Ellie Bamber has been cast to play Kate Moss in a biopic about the supermodel. Bamber is best known for her roles in the BBC series Les Misérables , the drama The Trial of Christine Keeler , the crime drama The Serpent , as well as the Disney+ series Willow .
Freud will be played by Derek Jacobi, a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning actor who has starred in projects such as Gladiator II , Murder on the Orient Express and Cinderella.
Kate spoke openly about her experience with Luciano
Lucian Freud, who was known for his raw depictions of naked bodies, did not like to paint celebrities, even turning down the opportunity to paint Princess Diana. However, the artist decided to contact Kate after she said in an interview with Dazed that one of her last goals in life was to paint Freud.
“Posing Luciana was an honor and an amazing experience,” Kate said in a press release. “After watching The Phone Call , I knew that James would convey the emotion of the story in the right way, the way this memoir deserves.” Having been involved in the development of the project and the script from the very beginning, I am now very excited to see the film come to life.”
Moss previously reflected on what it was like to pose for Freud in a 2014 interview with ShowStudio . “He taught me discipline, because I wasn’t allowed to be late,” she said. “If I was five minutes late, he would start to get angry.” But only once was I five minutes late and he said, ‘Are you on drugs?!’ And I said, ‘No, I’m pregnant!'”
Besides discipline, Freud also gave Kate another lasting gift: a bird tattoo. “We decided to do a flock of birds,” Moss recalled in a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair . “I mean, it’s the original Lucian Freud. I wonder how much a collector would pay for it? A few million? I would take it off.”
Expect lots of fashion treats
Kate is reportedly borrowing clothes from her personal wardrobe for the project. In the first official photo from the film, Bamber is dressed in a red, blue and white Union Jack suit , which Moss first wore at John Galliano’s spring 1993 fashion show.
Paparazzi photos from the June 2024 set also captured Bamber in the same blue sequined dress Moss wore to her 30th birthday party in 2004. This piece was originally worn by model and Bond girl Britt Eckland to the premiere of The Man With the Golden Gun in 1974.
