Last June, a new face joined Jonathan Anderson ‘s Bright Young People for his eponymous brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection. Her name is certainly familiar, as it evokes a whole world of imagery: Dree Hemingway. But it is indeed the granddaughter of this iconic American literary figure who captivated the Irish designer, head of JW Anderson and now creative director at Dior. At the end of August, the duo unveiled a new collaboration for the Twisted Denim collection, featuring model and actress Dree Hemingway and her partner, Nick Delli Santi, photographed together for the first time. The collection comprises pieces crafted from Japanese cotton, with each unisex design made in Japan by artisans specializing in denim work, before being subtly given a twist by Jonathan Anderson ‘s vision.
This is a good opportunity to republish our conversation with the American actress with the West Village girl look, who left New York, her first love, and now divides her time between Rome and Los Angeles when she’s not on a film set. After a busy 2026, marked by her role as Daryl Hannah in Ryan Murphy ‘s hit series Love Story, which tells the story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Dree continues on her path with the natural elegance and quiet confidence that define her. An interview.
Since the series Love Story , and even before, you’ve embodied a certain idea of the New Yorker. What is your relationship with the city today?
Dree Hemingway: New York is my whole heart. I lived there for almost fifteen years. It’s the city that shaped me.
The 1990s are everywhere again: in fashion, music, pop culture. How do you feel about this comeback? Is there another decade whose creative spirit fascinates you?
I’m thrilled that the 1990s are back. Their style embodies a kind of understated rebellion, and I love that. The 19th century was also incredibly decadent from a fashion perspective. We see some of those influences today, with corsets and petticoats, revisited in a more deconstructed way by designers like Dilara Findikoglu and Vivienne Westwood. I’d love to live in a world where everyone is extremely well-dressed, without elaborate hairstyles or makeup. That’s totally my world.Read also

What does having style mean to you?
I think that as long as you stay true to yourself, you can’t go wrong. I like to explore different patterns and colors, but always with a slightly offbeat, slightly imperfect detail.
Who are your main style inspirations?
Cher, when she’s not performing, is absolutely gorgeous. Lauren Hutton. Charlotte Rampling. Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits. Alain Delon in The Swimming Pool . Diane Keaton.
JW Anderson’s campaigns resemble a painting of Jonathan Anderson’s circle, like a creative New Wave. How did you join this group?
I adore Jonathan. I’ve always admired his talent and his unique style. I’m very grateful to have been welcomed into his world.
What appeals to you about Jonathan Anderson’s world?
Everything is very whimsical, yet incredibly wearable. There’s this mix of very sophisticated clothing and a slightly grunge touch that I really like.
You currently divide your time between Rome and Los Angeles, two cities with very different energies. What do you love most about this double life?
To be happy, I need to live in a city where people walk, and there’s no city like Rome. Los Angeles is where I rest and hibernate; Rome is where I feel inspired.
What makes Paris Fashion Week so special in your opinion?
For me, Paris is the epicenter of fashion. Being in the front row, walking the runway, or presenting your collection in Paris represents the greatest honor.
What are your current obsessions?
Midi pencil skirts. Sunglasses. And the perfect white t-shirt.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about style?
That style depends on designer labels or expensive clothes. True style lies in how you carry yourself and the confidence you project. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. You have to experiment.
What’s your most unexpected beauty tip?
A facial massage every morning, like a mini lymphatic drainage massage. Then vitamin C, followed by sunscreen.
What does your ideal summer look like?
A pencil skirt. A t-shirt. Fun sunglasses. Ballet flats or flip-flops. And a bag with character.
