Both summer sunshine and torrential showers loomed over the Louis Vuitton Cruise show in New York on Wednesday night. But Amy Adams wouldn’t have had her first Louis Vuitton runway experience go any other way. “It was such a strange thing. I loved it, though. I always love when something unpredictable happens, because that’s when it really cements memories,” she said of the turn in weather. “Walking outside in the row of umbrellas and the suppressive heat and the pouring rain, it was very memorable.”

Held at the Frick Collection on the city’s Upper East Side, the show took place against the backdrop of the museum’s stunning early-1900s architecture and extensive European art collections that include works by Rembrandt and Vermeer.

I am a massive fan of Nicolas Ghesquière and it was an honor to meet him! Thank you, Nicolas, for inviting me to your spectacularly stunning show!

“The space was so amazing, and the way the collection reflected the art was so beautiful,” Adams told Bazaar. Fitting for the setting, the fashion house also sent artworks down the runway in the form of a collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation—which Adams said was her favorite part. “I thought they were so fun and such a wonderful reflection of the art,” she said.

Just as much as Adams loved the collection, she also loved what she wore for the evening: a tailored black suit with a low-cut white blouse and a matching white scarf (all Louis Vuitton, of course). She finished the look with black pointed-toe heels and a black bag adorned with 3D floral accents.

Adams collaborated closely with the team on her outfit, explaining that “the look actually came together thanks to a previous photo shoot” she did in a similar black suit. “I loved it so much, so that was sort of our inspiration—just kind of pulling from that look because it felt very powerful.” Much like her famous roles, when it comes to fashion, Adams says, “I love things that are classic but with a twist, so it was very much in alignment with what I’m always looking to find and looking to wear.”

And the look didn’t stop at the clothes. Adams has worked with makeup artist Stephen Sollitto since her Enchanted days, and after 15 years of collaboration, she trusts his artistry. “At this point, I sit in the chair and let him play,” she says. The two listened to Taylor Swift while he experimented with a Charlotte Tilbury palette and their tried-and-true M.A.C Teddy liner.
