After six years of enthusiasm, questionable fashion choices, inventive marketing campaigns, and countless broken hearts, Emily in Paris is finally coming to an end. The coronavirus pandemic, during which the series first premiered, completely distorted my sense of time, so I genuinely did not realise it had already been this long since we first listened to criticism aimed at the show’s stereotyping of the French, and Americans too, for that matter. Still, when you look at everything Emily has been through over the past seasons, it becomes very clear that years have passed since she first arrived in Paris. What began as a love triangle has since tangled itself into something so complicated we can no longer count the angles, and Emily Cooper has decided to choose herself and her career, finally embracing the beauty of Europe without a handsome boyfriend on her arm, though can we really blame her?

Netflix has announced that production on season six has officially begun, alongside a photo that looks far more like Emily in Greece, but more on that later. News of the new season feels bittersweet this time around, as season six will also mark the end of Emily’s story. Although I miss the days when television series went on forever, and nothing delights me more than discovering a ten-season show I somehow never watched before, I have to admit this ending makes sense. Our endlessly enthusiastic protagonist has gone through significant growth and come a very long way since season one, both metaphorically and literally, so it only feels right for her story about discovering a new culture and finding her place in a world of impossibly high expectations to come to a close. Still, there are plenty of questions we need answered before the finale. Will Emily answer Gabriel’s call to Greece? Will Mindy marry Nicolas, or choose someone else entirely? What will happen to Agence Grateau? And has Emily’s visa finally expired?

What can we expect from season six of Emily in Paris?

First, let’s answer the obvious question: of course Emily is going to visit Gabriel in Greece. After all, when you’ve watched hundreds of TV shows in your lifetime, you learn to recognise the endgame from the very beginning. And with Emily and Gabriel, it was obvious from the moment he opened the door to his apartment. Sorry, Camille! Besides, previous seasons have already shown us that Emily is absolutely not the kind of person who would turn down a trip to a dreamy European destination, and when the love of your life invites you to Greece, let’s be honest, you’re booking the first flight to Mykonos. Things really are not that complicated.

Still, while the answer to who Emily Cooper will end up with by the end of the series may seem fairly obvious, the circumstances surrounding their relationship are not. We still do not know whether Gabriel will eventually return to Paris and reopen his restaurant, or whether Emily might continue her adventure at sea, travelling from one destination to another and meeting new people along the way. Whatever happens, I am certain the writers already have the perfect plan to make sure everything falls into place by the end. I only hope some charming Greek man does not appear on the plane and complicate things all over again.

One of my favourite characters in the series is Sylvie, so I am dying to find out what will happen to her agency now that Princess Jane has entered the business. And I have to admit, I am equally invested in the possibility of her divorce. As unconventional as Sylvie and Laurent may be as a couple, they have become one of my favourites in a series where no relationship seems capable of surviving longer than a month.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps and honestly, I hope it stays that way so the new season can surprise us all. “Season six brings everything you love about this series and will serve as the final chapter of Emily’s adventure,” Lily Collins said while announcing the new season. “Our entire team is putting their hearts into creating a fantastic farewell season, which we are currently filming.”

Who is returning to the cast?

Following the season five finale, we already know that Minnie Driver will be returning, alongside the rest of the main cast. That includes Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Thalia Besson, and Arnaud Binard, especially considering the new storylines surrounding Sylvie’s private life.

When will season six premiere?

Based on the show’s previous release schedule, and considering filming is already underway, season six of Emily in Paris could arrive in late 2026 or sometime between early and mid-2027. We’ll be patiently waiting.
