Fashion is always finding new inspiration, drawing on the current zeitgeist and world history as much as on fairy tales, myths and legends. This is also the case for the current season: As if they had floated down from Olympus onto the catwalks, several models could be seen in dramatically draped dresses during fashion weeks.
Goddess Dressing combines artistic draping with feminine strength
In Greek mythology, Mount Olympus was the seat of the twelve Olympian gods who ruled the world. It was a kind of divine palace, a sphere above the clouds in which the immortals lived in power, beauty and luxury . The Olympian goddesses played a central role in this – they embodied values such as wisdom, love , nature and protection. As we all know, wisdom is not something you can easily put on, but the fashion trend towards goddess dressing is just as powerful as its source of inspiration; it defines a strong, sensual type of femininity. What already looked wonderful on Hera, Athena and Aphrodite is now finding its way into the latest collections of fashion houses. Alongside draping and asymmetrical silhouettes, pleated or flowing fabrics are also a central element here, as was discovered at designer Stella McCartney’s show in Paris.
The dresses in her spring collection are in delicate pastel shades and white, in keeping with the goddess-like design. After all, soft nuances such as light blue and cream tones are reminiscent of the sky, appear airy, light and reflect a certain antique aesthetic. However, some fashion houses also used muted colors for their designs. Jacquemus, for example, showed a one-shoulder dress in deep black, while Victoria Beckham opted for a satin dress in a dark blue tone. This interprets goddess dressing in a particularly elegant way and is suitable for evening wear. Shiny materials were also used at Sportmax, while Khaite showed a structured version of the dress style on the runway, layered over shimmering trousers.
The asymmetry and draping of the fashion trend may be reminiscent of the classic statues of Greek goddesses, but in the form of dresses they appear anything but rigid and static. Rather, they are dynamic, create flowing movements and gently hug the female silhouette. Accessories and shoes with a metallic look – as seen at Jacquemus or Imane Ayissi – complete the classic goddess dressing . If you prefer something simpler, however, you can forego eye-catching jewelry and instead opt for understated extras, both during the day and when going out. Aphrodite would certainly like that too.
