The Best Hotels In London For A Weekend In The Metropolis

The history of London stretches back to the 11th century. Even today, the city is full of contradictions and bizarre simultaneities. The places of the global metropolis never cease to amaze. Victorian townhouses are joined by skyscrapers and icons of brutalism. There is luxury, hipsterism and royal legacies, as well as a thriving art and fashion scene. River thames? or expensive mistake?

Are you planning a trip to London? These are the most exciting hotels in architectural icons and behind Victorian facades

Best hotels in London: These accommodations are worth a visit!

Whether you are following historical paths or immersing yourself in the cultural and culinary offerings, a trip to London opens up countless possibilities. There is also a wide choice of accommodation options. After all, London is home to some of the most prestigious hotels in Europe that uphold heritage and tradition.

These are the 7 most beautiful hotels in London

The NoMad, Covent Garden

As with its New York parent company, the NoMad brand demonstrates a fascinating feel for unique places and their surroundings. In London, the luxury hotel has been occupying a historic building at 28 Bow Street opposite the Royal Opera since 2021, which served as a police station for over 150 years and before that as a courtroom. Instead of ignoring the dark past of the walls, the interior and art collection of the “NoMad” hotel repeatedly refer to the history of the house. One of those who stood trial there was Oscar Wilde – the illustrations from his drama “Salomé” now run like a common thread through the entire hotel. The carefully curated art collection makes the “NoMad” a special place anyway. 1,618 works are located in the rooms, suites and public areas of the hotel – many of them were commissioned especially for the hotel.

The Londoner, Leicester Square

William Shakespeare leans relaxed on his plinth in Leicester Square. Would he have stayed at “The Londoner” in his day? The 5-star hotel is hard to miss on the busy square between Piccadilly and Trafalgar Square. Despite the size of the building (the hotel has 16 floors and 350 rooms and suites), everything here has a familiar feel; you don’t even want to finish breakfast at “Whitcomb’s”. A visit to “The Londoner” almost makes it seem like you are in a high-scale boutique hotel, which feels almost homely with small details and contemporary furnishings. One of the hotel’s special features is hidden in the basement: the spacious spa area with pool, sauna and steam bath makes you forget that you are in the middle of Europe’s largest Metropolis.

Shangri-La The Shard, Southwark

There are not many landmarks where you can also spend the night. This is possible in the razor-sharp skyscraper “The Shard”, which Renzo Piano built between 2009 and 2012 on the south bank of the Thames. And with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel. At 310 meters, the pyramid-shaped tip towers above all other buildings in London and allows a unique view of the metropolis. The “Shangri-La” and its more than 200 rooms and suites are located on floors 34 to 52. The 5-star hotel includes the “Ting ” restaurant and the “Gong” bar . The latter is the highest bar in Western Europe and is also accessible to guests outside the hotel. The view from the pool, sauna and gym is just as dizzying. The hotel chain, which is at home in the Asia-Pacific region, remains true to its program in London and shines with luxury that meets English tradition. Guests can expect special offers for both the Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day.

Ruffles at The OWO, Westminster

The location of the Ruffles Group’s first hotel in London speaks for itself. The OWO (Old War Office) in the Whitehall government district is not only historically but also architecturally significant. The listed building was put into operation in 1906 as the forerunner of the Ministry of Defense and was restored for eight years before the hotel opened in autumn 2023. This meant that, among other things, the spectacular main staircase could be put back into operation. The 120 rooms and suites were designed by the French architect Thierry Despont, and there is also a spectacular spa with a pool and sauna. There is also a lot going on in the OWO in terms of cuisine: there are nine restaurants and three bars in the hotel, including the mysterious “Bar” and a spectacular roof terrace with panoramic views of St. James’s Park, and Buckingham Palace.

The London Edition, Fitzrovia

At “The London Edition” you are right in the middle of the action. The hotel in Fitzrovia makes a cinematic impression right from the lobby. A gigantic work of art dangles over the bar area, which is ideal for both working and enjoying an aperitif. In addition to the seating area in velvety Chesterfield style, there is even a snooker table. The hotel in Fitzrovia combines historical splendor with casualness. The 173 rooms and suites are contemporary in design and offer privacy with excellent service. You can enjoy sophisticated British cuisine (yes, it really does exist) under ornate ceiling decorations. The “Punch Room” bar is a contemporary reference to London’s members’ clubs of the 19th century. The “London Edition” – there is no other way to put it – is incredibly sexy.

The Hoxton, Shoreditch

Where the Hoxton stands today , there was a car park 20 years ago. In 2006, the first hotel of the chain opened in what is now the trendy Shoreditch district. The chain now operates hotels in major European cities, including Vienna. The hotel’s core program is based on an “open house” mentality and is intended to serve as a meeting place for people from the immediate area and encourage them to come by for a drink. The concept is primarily aimed at young creative people who like to network. The “Hoxton” in Shoreditch invites you to do this in a spacious lobby where mobile working is also welcome. For breakfast, lunch or dinner, head to the “Hoxton Grill” and the “Llama Inn”.
