One of those who stood trial there was Oscar Wilde – the illustrations from his drama “Salomé” now run like a common thread through the entire hotel. The location of the Ruffles Group’s first hotel in London speaks for itself. The OWO (Old War Office) in the Whitehall government district is not only historically but also architecturally significant. The listed building was put into operation in 1906 as the forerunner of the Ministry of Defense and was restored for eight years before the hotel opened in autumn 2023. This meant that, among other things, the spectacular main staircase could be put back into operation. The 120 rooms and suites were designed by the French architect Thierry Despont, and there is also a spectacular spa with a pool and sauna. There is also a lot going on in the OWO in terms of cuisine: there are nine restaurants and three bars in the hotel, including the mysterious “Bar” and a spectacular roof terrace with panoramic views of St. James’s Park, and Buckingham Palace.
