Fashionistas immediately clocked that her baby pink embellished dress is the same Ungaro piece that her mother wore to the 1999 MTV Movie Awards. For those of us who struggle with basic math, yes, this means the dress is older than the birthday girl. Though it doesn’t show its age.

On her own Instagram, the Chicago star shared sweet black-and-white pics from Carys’ early years, and wrote a heartfelt message to her daughter, sharing, “Happy Birthday to my beautiful daughter @carys.douglas You are the joy of my life. 21 years of watching you blossom in to the most incredible woman you are today is a God given gift that I never take for granted and cherish every day of my life. Thank you for being you. I love you with all my heart ♥️ Mama.”

Carys, currently a film student at Brown, made her red carpet debut at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, accompanying her parents in a white Ellie Saab gown.

She’s been her mum’s plus-one at fashion events for years, so it’s no surprise that she has impeccable taste. And since Catherine Zeta-Jones is basically her lookalike, what flatters one will probably flatter the other, and vice versa.

According to her LinkedIn, Carys is also involved in food sustainability at school, and we have to imagine the choice to recycle her birthday dress was motivated in part by it being eco-friendly. So cool!
