The Red hair, skimpy outfits, and a loose tongue – that’s how Geri Halliwell rose to fame in the 1990s. As a member of the legendary Spice Girls, her songs influenced an entire generation. Now the singer and presenter is celebrating her 53th birthday.
Most children of the 90s still remember the Spice Girls era well. Posters of the five-member girl group hung in every other child’s room, and their songs dominated the charts worldwide.
The women arguably became the Spice Girls’ most successful bandmates, whose Girl Power catapulted them to unimaginable heights. But then they drifted off their separate ways. Victoria became a high-end fashion designer who for years appeared to be hell bent on shaking off the Spice Girl shackles. Geri embarked on a solo career and is now a country lady of the manor.
Their friendship seemed to stick, but it isn’t entirely surprising that after three decades, theirs, like many others, comes with its ups, downs, tensions and in some instances, competitiveness.
But it could be argued that each woman is still seemingly vying for the top spot. Just this week, Geri unfollowed Victoria, her husband David and their son Brooklyn, only to refollow them days later, leading fans to speculate that their friendship had hit rocky ground.
According to a Dutch reporter, Geri’s husband Christian has been accused of “inappropriate behaviour”. He was initially only under investigation over alleged controlling behaviour at work, but now it’s come out a further allegation has emerged that he sent her “sexually suggestive” texts.
In response to the allegations, Christian said: “I completely deny these claims that I’m an inappropriate person. As everyone suggests” Geri has reportedly been in floods of tears over the claims, but is standing by her husband after he was being accused of sexual misconduct with ‘other’ women.
A source close to her has said: “Geri has been in floods of tears all weekend while looking after her kids. “Geri and Victoria have an almost sisterly relationship. It’s a case of ‘anything you can do, I can do better,’ a showbiz insider reveals.
Geri with her striking outfits and cheeky sayings, Geri Halliwell, now known as Geri Horner, was one of the most striking members of the British band. After leaving the band in 1998, the musician devoted herself to her solo career and, from 2002 onward, increasingly appeared as a presenter. Since then, Halliwell has been an integral part of the British media landscape.
On August 6, the 90s icon celebrates her 53th birthday. Her hair has remained red, her outfits have become more understated. Since her marriage to Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner, Halliwell has focused on her career as a presenter and designer and regularly appears at charity events. Her biggest hits: daughter Bluebell Madonna (18) and son Montague George (7).
