When the good weather sets in and the high temperatures set in, the question arises more when it comes to differentiating a long-lasting formula from a waterproof formula. Which one should we choose to boost our eyes over time? We asked Céline Dupuy-Bonaque, Sales Training Coordinator at Rimmel.
Long-lasting mascara, the city’s faithful
“A long-lasting mascara has a formula that resists without budging, flaking or running, all day long, whether the activity is calm or more intense,” begins the expert. Thus, it can resist friction, humidity or even light and brief contact with water such as small tears, perspiration or even splashes.” With it, we say goodbye to panda eyes when arriving at the office or at a family dinner after a few daily adventures. “This high hold is possible thanks to the presence of film-forming agents that coat the lashes and make the formula more resistant,” specifies the pro. Waterproof mascara, the foolproof alternative
Unlike its little brother, waterproof mascara is water-repellent, in other words, it does not dissolve in water. Indeed, “its formula does not change when exposed to water, even for a long time. Waterproof mascara has long had a bad reputation in terms of makeup removal. While formulas are improving and becoming easier to remove thanks to products containing “a minimum of oil” – as found in two-phase eye makeup removers or makeup remover oils – it remains a time-consuming and delicate gesture for this fragile area of the face. So avoid it daily! Long-lasting mascara, which is hydrophilic, will soften and dilute in water. A gentle eye makeup remover or micellar water may suffice.
A very close match
If in the game of resistance, it is waterproof mascara that wins when faced with extreme conditions in terms of humidity or heat, long-lasting mascara has not lost everything and has its own advantages. The trick is to adapt your choice of mascara to the situation.
“Waterproof mascara is the guarantee of remaining impeccable whatever the events and activities of the day. It is therefore preferred during aquatic activities, whether on a sports holiday at the seaside or during moments of relaxation by the pool or even during emotional moments such as a wedding, for example.” In short, it is the one that is used punctually during very specific events.
On a daily basis, however, long-lasting mascara is more than enough. In addition to having the reputation of being a little easier to remove, “its formula will be faithful all day long, whether you’re at the office after running to catch the bus or ready to follow up with a gym session. It accompanies us without fail, whether our day is very active or more zen, whether it ends at 5 p.m. or continues with an evening of restaurants and movies.”
