In an interview over the phone with Ferg of the canine co-parenting situation. KrasH was not unlike most puppies: He loved to be outside and enjoyed a good game of chase—so much so that even if a door was just slightly ajar, he’d bolt out of it and “have the whole neighborhood looking for him,” Ferg says. He did this twice while at a dog sitter in Jersey. “Then, the third time, he didn’t return.”

The experience, Ferg says, was traumatic. “I’d never felt like that before. It was alien, like losing a member of your family. I was speaking to psychics, asking, ‘Where’s my dog?’” A psychic told him that KrasH was in the wilderness, to which he replied, “That’s crazy.” But perhaps it wasn’t.

Fast-forward to last month, and Ferg got a call from a Connecticut police station asking if he was the owner of an Australian shepherd named KrasH; officers saw him wandering around and picked him up. (KrasH is chipped, which made it possible for him to be identified if found but not located while he was lost, as chips don’t work like AirTags). How the small dog ended up in Connecticut remains a mystery, but Ferg suspects that at some point he was taken in by a family and again ran away.

KrasH got the heart of Tupac—I think Tupac is KrasH’s spirit.

Ferg

Medrano picked KrasH up in Connecticut, and “he ran into her arms when he saw her,” Ferg says. His reunion with the dog shortly after was similar. “He ran to me and was sniffing and licking me all over. I just remember one, being happy, and two, saying to myself, ‘he’s alive and this is crazy.’ I’m still tripping that he made it back to us. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a story like this.” As fate would have it, the universe reunited Ferg and KrasH the same week Ferg was relaunching his late father’s clothing brand, Ferg Apparel. “It was just full circle,” Ferg says, “all of these things happening [at once].”

With the two getting to know each other again after more than three years apart, Ferg and KrasH answer George V Magazine’s Dogue questionnaire.

Ferg: How protective he is. He’s like a small, cute dog to everybody, but he’s vicious. His name is KrasH, so he’s ready to crash out at any moment.

He has the heart of a lion—he doesn’t stand back from anybody. My mother calls him Man-Dog, because he moves and acts like a man. He’s such a strong spirit. Whenever I wake up in the morning, he’s there in my bed, after I’ve told him, “Sleep in your own bed.” But he’s a lover, he wants to love. He’s a fly dog.

Who would voice KrasH in a movie?

I think I got to do the voiceover because I spend the most time with him, so I know what his spirit is. Or, we could get an AI Tupac voice because I swear he got Tupac’s spirit.

Where is one place you wish you could take KrasH?

I would like to discover where he’s been—that’s where I would want to go with KrasH. I would want to know: Within those three years, where was he? I hope this story gets out and I get to meet the family that had him and see what type of people they are. That’s if he was with a family. I don’t even know if he was just out and about. I want KrasH to show me everywhere he’s been—what he ate, if he fought rats, if he had dog friends, cat friends.

What’s the most human thing KrasH does?

He’s a man-dog, so he’s overprotective. Like, I got a security guard, but KrasH is really my security guard. If somebody were to try to get into my house, they would have to get through KrasH first.

What’s the most dog thing KrasH does?

He barks at people. He’s being protective of me, but I think to his detriment. I’m like, “Yo, chill, that’s my mom.”

What is KrasH’s full name?

KrasH Brown Medrano. “KrasH” comes from the Crash Bandicoot video game character, because he looks like him, then my last name and his mom’s last name. There’s no reason for the spelling, that’s just me.

Do you know his astrological sign?

No, I need to figure that out.

What is KrasH’s favorite toy?

Right now it would have to be this frog that my mother got off Amazon. It’s a green frog that makes a little horn noise.

What’s his favorite meal?

I started making him white rice and doing some boiled chicken and a little bit of dog food. I forget the brand of the food, but it’s like berries, chicken, and peas. He loves berry treats.

What is KrasH’s worst habit?

KrasH don’t got no bad habits. He doesn’t tear the house up, he’s chill. If I put YouTube on with some dog meditation sounds and videos of other dogs, he’s just chilling. When I come in the house from working or traveling, he’s just on my bed waiting for me.

If KrasH could talk, what would his catchphrase be?

“Hold on, Ferg, I got this.”

What does KrasH think your worst habit is?

If he could critique me, he would say, “Dad, take me to training so I can learn more and get to be off the leash more.” I want to get him trained so he can be a little more free to play outside. But we’re still building our relationship. He was basically a newborn when he left us. We have a lot of catching up to do.

Salma Hayek Pinault on Reimagining Like Water for Chocolate for a New Generation

“This story makes you want to cook food and make love,” the executive producer of the new series tells George V Magazine.
