The number of combat aircraft could currently have a greater impact than the total number of air defense systems that Ukraine currently has. With the appearance of the first F-16s, Khrapchinsky believes the number of missile attacks will decrease significantly, as Russian aircraft will be more cautious.
Focus On Security Instead Of Air Battles
However, the expert did not expect any air battles, as the primary goal was to secure Ukrainian airspace from missile attacks. Even the possible use of F-16 air-to-air missiles against attacking Russian fighter planes would help secure the airspace.
The expert assumed that the F-16s at Ukrainian military airfields would be safe from Russian attacks. “We should not forget that there are certain technologies to counter threats from the air, in particular air defense systems, which will be made available even before the delivery of the F-16,” said Khrapchinsky.
Danish Jets At Undisclosed Location
Ukraine received the second batch of F-16s from Danish government after Netherlands sent their F-16s few weeks ago, which now have been made available to the country by both the Netherlands and Denmark. Belgium and Norway have also promised Ukraine additional fighter jets. Ukrainian pilots have already been trained on the machines. Exactly when the first jets are expected remains a military secret for now. According to the German government, the German army does not have any F-16s.
