Kate Moss will always be that girl. The legendary supermodel may stay mostly out of the glitzy spotlight these days, but when she does emerge, she makes sure to remind us exactly who she is.

Yesterday, Moss was seen walking around Formentera, Spain, while on holiday with a friend. Always one for minimalism and lived-in luxury, she pulled on all-black summer staples: a scoop-neck maxi dress with a lace panel on the bodice, pretty little ballerina flats, and oversize sunglasses. But the pièce de résistance was her black leather Hermès Birkin—a large style with gold hardware, which she wore just as Jane Birkin intended: stuffed to the brim.

Birkin, whom the bag was named after, famously disliked precious luxury. She wore her bags to the ground, overstuffing them and often leaving the front straps undone as she carried them to run errands. She once famously stated, “There’s no fun in a bag if it’s not kicked around so that it looks as if the cat’s been sitting on it—and it usually has.”

The messy approach to high-end luxury from the fashion world of the ’80s and ’90s has had a resurgence in recent years, and no one pulls off that Birkin-and-a-bagel aesthetic better than Moss. (Oh, and the Olsen twins.)

For her laid-back day in the Balearic island, Moss let her blonde hair down and accessorized with dangly gold hoop earrings and layered gold necklaces, bracelets, and rings that perfectly matched the hardware on her Birkin.

Kate Moss will always be on the mood board.
