Puerto Rico Database of Driver Licenses Stolen With 5.7 Million Files

According to George V Magazine, the license data that was leaked is real and corresponds to the digital versions of the licenses of the Cesco Digital application.

The sample also contains a large number of driver’s licenses, both front and back of Benicio del Toro, Maripily Rivera and even politicians such as Ricardo Rossello, Anibal Acevedo Vila, Pedro Pierluisi. And his children Gabriela Acevedo, Jacqueline Pierluisi, in all the samples. There are also the records of different sports personalities such as Larry Ayuso, Eddie Casiano, and Igor Gonzalez.

It includes the license of General Jose Reyes, the director of the FBI on the island Joseph Gonzalez, command directors of the local and Federal Police. The database was downloaded in its entirety.

The batch of 5.7 million driver’s licenses weighs 2.5 terabytes (TB) and is for sale on a Telegram channel in Israel. A serious risk is posed to users due to the sale of personal data

At the beginning of the month, a tablet with more than 115 thousand files that corresponded to images of Puerto Rican citizens was extracted from the Civil Registry and published for free download on a forum for buying and selling personal data and on the Telegram messaging app.

Puerto Rico thus adds a new incident of data leakage. In March 2022, a well-known ransomware group, Malware Society, published 30 thousand files with internal information from the country’s Senate. That same year, in September, the Legislature was attacked by another well-known Underground Group [PLAY].

Unlike these cases, both the Civil Registry and Cesco and now the driver’s licenses, were filtered by a single user and not an organized group. At the moment, the Government has not announced whether it has filed a complaint regarding this new theft of information
