There are many alternatives to treat hair loss.

Hair loss is a condition we all experience, whether we are aware of it or not. Although this situation is more obvious in people with long hair, it is normal to lose between 80 and 100 hairs in a day. The average life cycle of hair begins with a growth phase called the Anagen (growth) phase. This is followed by Catagen (end of the growth cycle), Telogen (rest) and then Exogen (shedding). While the first three stages are related to the growth and maturation of the hair, the fourth and last stage, the Exogenous stage, is the stage where active shedding occurs. The anagen phase is not only the most active of the phases, but also the longest; It can last between three and seven years, depending on individual factors such as ethnicity, general health and medication. The other three stages tend to last only days to months.

Hair loss is often a sign of an underlying trigger or condition that affects the development of the growth cycle. It is stated that hair loss, which is thought to be primarily a men’s problem, affects approximately 40 percent of women up to the age of 50. Many women, although affected, are so embarrassed that they never go to the doctor. Everything that negatively affects our mind, emotions or body can also affect our hair. Trauma not only affects mental health, but also profoundly impacts physiological and overall health. However, it is important to find out what type of hair loss you are facing before seeking treatment.

What are the Causes of Hair Loss in Women?

The number of hair shed in a day generally depends on the person. But if your normal seems to have changed and you’re finding extra hair on your pillows and clothes, it may mean that your hair growth cycle is disrupted.

Female pattern hair loss means it’s likely caused by a combination of genetic factors from both your mother and father; but other factors may also contribute. Medical factors can include hormonal changes that occur during perimenopause, menopause, and the postpartum period, as well as stress, illness, weight loss, and even gut health. 

How to Treat Hair Loss in Women?

Before starting any treatment, it is important to consult your dermatologist to make sure the treatment path you decide on is right for you.

Hair loss does not happen quickly, strands grow in cycles, which means it can take up to 3 months for hair to fall out after a trigger. If you notice excessive daily hair loss for a longer period of time, contact your doctor; There may be an underlying factor that needs to be addressed. Most importantly, try not to panic. It is stated that excessive shedding almost always disappears on its own, and once any internal imbalance is corrected, the hair begins to grow again as usual.

It is recommended that you be gentle with your hair, use a detangler and avoid tugging, especially when brushing and combing your hair when it is wet. A wide-tooth comb can help prevent hair from pulling.

In the treatment, laser combs and caps that use low-energy light to stimulate the hair follicles can be used. Although there are various types on the market, only a few have received FDA approval. In addition, FDA-approved medications prescribed by your doctor can also be used. Microneedling is also another treatment. This treatment is often used together with topical minoxidil. The doctor uses fine needles to make small punctures in the scalp and then applies the topical treatment.

Hair is made of protein, making it essential to have adequate daily intake of protein-rich foods. You can add a handful of protein to breakfast and lunch.

It is also recommended to pay attention to Iron, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, Copper, Zinc, Selenium and the essential amino acids, L-Lysine and L-Methionine. Traditional head massage is also said to promote scalp health as it stimulates blood flow to the area. Hair oils strengthen the hair from the root. It is truly great for anyone struggling with hair loss and breakage as it strengthens and protects hair follicles and strands, conditions the scalp and promotes healthy hair growth.
